About Me

- I'm a Finnish astronomical photographer and I'm enjoying to be able to reveal, even a small part of, the hidden beauty of our Universe. Location and weather My observatory is located in city center of Oulu, Finland. Location near Polar Circle, is not ideal. We have six Months with no darkness, deep sky astro imaging can't be done during that time. Average picture count per year is around 10-12. Equipment My tools are kind of modest, just an old Meade LX200 GPS 12" and couple of second hand camera lenses. Passion This is an art form for me and every time I start a new imaging project, the result makes me thrilled. Some publications NASA APOD (Astronomy Picture Of the Day, four times), National Geographic (Space picture of the Week, Helmikuu 2012, two times), LPOD (Lunar Picture Of the Day, five times), Sky & Telescope magazine, Discover magazine,Interstellarum, Ciel & Espace, Tähdet ja avaruus, Stella Arcti prize 2009. An article in Sky & telescope magazine (J-P Metsavainio, A New Way of Looking at the Moon. Sky & Telescope, Jan 2005, p 142-146.)
